For Emma is an uplifting album, subtly romantic in nature, with music that covers a range of genres. Cello and double bass are used in several tracks to create a particular exuberant feel; a few tracks dip into trip-hop, providing an edgier sound; the track 'Myst to Mist' has a touch of Steampunk; and real MRI samples were used for the track 'MRI Diversion', the most experimental track on the album, which was inspired by a difficult time in the life of the person the music was made for.
